An Irish tale of the Black Stuff

A sticky story of the Black Stuff, the ‘Black Pool’ (the literal translation of Dublin), and their unique relationship with the ‘Black Arts’. Printers and beer, who would’ve thought it…

An Irish tale of the Black Stuff was written, designed and bound in collaboration (and over a few drinks) with Jamie Murphy at The Salvage Press: the text pages being produced in a joint effort in Dublin, with the cover wrap printed later in London.

The slim volume has been hand typeset in 22pt and 12pt Monotype Caslon and printed on Zerkall mould made paper at The Distillers Press at The National School of Art and Design, Dublin. The shortened black wrapper — printed in 6-line Stephenson Blake Sans Serif No.14 wood type on Fedrigoni Savile Row — adds a familiar ‘stout’ finish to the design.

Produced in a limited edition 50, split between ourselves and Jamie, for friends of the two presses.
