St Bride Library

St Bride is a stalwart of Fleet Street, set up in 1891 as technical library and printing school for the printing trades near by. The school has long gone but the library remains; crammed full of printing, typography and design related books, newspapers and periodicals, an awe-inspiring collection of type specimens, steel punches and matrices for metal type from some of the late, great type foundries… Not to mention a print workshop with quite the collection of presses.

St Bride is an incredible resource for people that love type and graphic design. But it needs support to stay open to everyone. So you can now become a Friend of St Bride to help do just that. There are lots of reasons to become a Friend, plus you’ll get a membership card designed and printed by us.

The cards are typeset by hand and printed on our treadle Arab Foolscap press in two colours – black and fluorescent pink.
